The project involves the construction of a new portable water transmission main (siphon) beneath the Upper New York Bay between the boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island. The new siphon will replace two existing subaqueous water siphons (Siphon Nos. 1 and 2) located beneath Upper New York Bay. The new 72'' water main will be contained within a 12-foot 4'' excavated diameter bored tunnel. In addition to the construction of the new siphon, the project also includes the construction of shafts on both the Brooklyn and Staten Island sides of the harbor, 7,100 linear feet of new water transmission and distribution mains, and other related infrastructure improvements to connect the new system to the existing distribution network in Brooklyn and Staten Island, as well as a new chlorination station in Staten Island.
Judlau is a subcontractor to OHL USA on this project. Judlau’s scope includes installation of land piping, construction of the chlorination building, and the installation of the siphon pipe in the tunnel.
